About John Krygier

Profile

I drew imaginary maps as a child and did not think much about "real" maps until I was in college, discovered geography, and decided to major in something interesting. I learned old school map design and production - with scribers, stick-up type, and darkrooms - at the University of Wisconsin Madison Cartographic Lab. While I was there, the Cart Lab acquired a very fancy Macintosh SE with Illustrator 1.0, and that was the beginning of the end for the scribers. I currently teach Geography at Ohio Wesleyan University. I also authored, with Denis Wood, Making Maps - a book that graphically presents basic map design and cartography in an amusing manner for newbies to cartography.
