		<description>I work as a communications coordinator for a transit system, and i wouldn&#039;t use the kick map without significant modifications.

The main problem i see is that it isn&#039;t color-blind proof. It uses very, very subtle gradations of color and places them immediately next to each other. There are two main layers where this occurs - the route lines and the neighborhood polygons (to a lessor extent). I have a hard time distinguishing the blues/browns on the route lines from each other and i&#039;m not technically color-blind.

There are other identifying elements for routes on this map, but since color is such an integral convention a person could probably make an ADA claim against it. And with NY ridership being as large and diverse as it is, i wouldn&#039;t be surprised to see one at some point if this map were adopted.

&#039;Accessibility&#039; is mentioned as part of this map&#039;s main draw. A transit agency has to take into account all populations where reasonable accommodations can be made. Maps (especially their color schemes) can be adjusted fairly easily to accommodate the color-blind. I would not say that this map using its current conventions meets the full requirements of accessibility.

Along with the color gradations, dashes/dots/etc could be used differentiate the lines more clearly.

It looks very nice though...i&#039;d take one for my wall!</description>
